The story so far...
Charlotte Hodge was born on the Isle of Wight in 1968. She lived and grew up in Bembridge – attending Bembridge Primary School, Forelands Middle School and Sandown High School, before leaving the Island to study art on the mainland.

Charlotte studied a textile/art degree at Manchester Metropolitan University and graduated with a First Class honours in 1991. Although fully trained in all fields of art and design, Charlotte chose to concentrate on her career as a textile artist. She went on to gain awards from the Crafts Council of Great Britain and the Prince’s Youth Business Trust for her original and contemporary embroidered textiles.
Between 1991 and 1999 Charlotte exhibited her textiles widely throughout the UK at prestigious venues including the Barbican and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. She undertook several major textile wall hanging commissions for corporate and hospital art consultants; gaining recognition as one of Britain’s leading textile artists.
In 1997 an important example of Charlotte’s work, a wall hanging entitled ‘Dreamvision’, was purchased for the Embroiderer’s Guild Permanent Museum Collection at Hampton Court Palace.
While working as an artist in Manchester Charlotte taught life drawing at Manchester Metropolitan University. In 1994 Charlotte moved to live in London, where she continued as a self employed artist as well as being a part-time tutor of painting, drawing and portraiture at Bromley Adult Education College.
Charlotte stopped working entirely in 1999, after the birth of her first son, Edward. In 2001 Charlotte, her husband and young family moved back to live on the Island. In 2002 they moved into their new home in Bembridge, after the birth of their second son, Howard.
In January 2004, after a five year break from all artistic pursuits, Charlotte started to create again; this time focusing on painting her surroundings in watercolour. In 2005 she returned to using acrylic paint, in a bold style, to capture the dramatic skies of Bembridge as well as local land and sea scapes. While Charlotte continues to create her textile compositions, the focus of her current work has now shifted predominantly towards painting.
In September 2006 Charlotte's third son Rafe was born.
Recent Exhibitions & Commissions
In March 2005, Charlotte staged a successful exhibition at Bembridge Library, on the Isle of Wight. As a result of this, she was commissioned to make a large textile wall hanging for a private client in Surrey.
Later that year Charlotte was commissioned to make a series of 16 large, canvas paintings for a prestigious new Bembridge based restaurant, Fulton's, which opened in September 2005.
In 2006 Charlotte had exhibitions at St Helens Restaurant, Quay Arts and with the Beaux Arts group in Bembridge. She also participated in the annual IW Open Studio event for the third year running - opening her home as a gallery to showcase her artwork.
